Who We Are
League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides civic services to our Southern New Mexico communities. Our members study issues and provide recommendations to public policymakers as a collective, including affordable housing, public education, and civic government. Our voter services activities include voter registration events, candidate forums, and publishing Voters Guides for our communities prior to elections. Through our activities, we help ensure that all eligible voters are able to access unbiased, nonpartisan information when exercising their right to vote. We also aim to influence public policy through education and advocacy in our mission to empower voters and defend democracy.
But WHO are we? We are a group of local Southern New Mexico community members, women, men, people of all genders, retirees, working adults, students, and people of all ages, abilities, and race and ethnicities.
LWVSNM is based in Las Cruces and has an Otero County unit based in Alamogordo. Southern New Mexico includes the following counties: Doña Ana, Grant, Luna, Otero, and Sierra.

History
The national League of Women Voters (LWV) was organized prior to the ratification of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote 1920. The nonprofit is one of the nation’s most respected community-based organizations, supporting the election process and working on local issues, from education to immigration to election reform.
We Are Community Members Who
- Create awareness and educate others about voting and voting rights
- Study public policy issues, adopt positions through consensus or through concurrence with other Leagues, and advocate for action to benefit our communities
