CANDIDATE FORUM FEATURED STATE REPRESENTATIVE RACES
The League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) co-sponsored a candidates’ forum on October 6 for several political races that will be decided by voters in New Mexico’s General Election on November 3, 2026. The event was held in conjunction with Temple Beth-El of Las Cruces. Candidates in contested races were invited and those who attended and spent more than an hour answering questions were (left to right) Julia Ruiz (R) and Nathan Small (D), District 36; Lori Martinez (D), District 37; and Micaela Lara Cadena (D), District 33.
Temple Beth-El plans additional forums for other races. Early voting is underway. Voters can now reference the LWVSNM Voters’ Guide prior to casting their ballot. CLICK HERE to read or download the guide.
Words About Our Democracy
“We all play a role in this democracy. We need to remember the power of every vote. I continue, too, to keep myself connected to a force that is larger and more potent than any one election, or leader, or news story – and that’s optimism. For me, this is a form of faith, an antidote to fear.”

Thank You Voters! Next: the General Election
Approximately 346,385 voters in New Mexico took the opportunity to vote in the state’s first semi-open primary election on June 2. That’s just under 25% of the 1.4 million eligible voters in the state. You can click here www.electionresults.sos.nm.gov/ to review the state results. You can click on the Secretary of State’s map of the state to review totals from “Doña Ana County”. In Doña Ana County, nearly 29% of eligible voters cast their votes.
Many New Mexicans read the candidates’ answers to the League’s questions about their experiences and viewpoints. Those answers will also be available later in the election season in preparation for the Nov. 3, 2026 General Elections. The answers are part of the League’s state Vote411.org Voters’ Guide.
